Last week, I was in my dad's hometown and I met up with my cousin, who's currently working as a salesperson in a pharmacy. She has a nursing degree, but failed the board exams, so right now, she cannot practice what she was trained to do. She was hoping she could enter a review center to help her prepare for the next board exams, so right now, she was trying to earn enough money to sustain that.If I was her, I would consider being a medical assistant. With her knowledge in the medicine and health care, I am sure she would make a good medical assistant. My mom is really proud of me to be going back to school and always tell me that she wishes she could do it and she has been thinking about going to college for as long as I can remember. I think that she would be good at trying for classes online and especially in medical assistant courses. She does something similar at her current job working at a nursing home. This probably would be good since she would be able to be at home and taking her classes when she is able to especially since she works a full time job. She would also be able to get her Medical Assistant Certificate within 6 to 8 weeks. She would learn things such as medical terminology, patient communication, medical billing and insurance claims and other things required for the course. Since she would be doing this online, she could also do her medical clinical labs right from her computer. St. Augustine School of Medical Assistance is the college that would offer this opportunity to her. What I thought was also cool is that she could get a discount on the tuition fee if she knows someone that would like to take online classes as well. It's close to a $200 discount from an already low tuition fee of $645. My cousin is about to sit for her SPM examination. When I met her at a dinner recently, she told me that she has not decided what she wanted to do after her SPM exam. Going to university to further her studies is out of the question for her as she is not prepared to spend the next 3-4 years studying. She’s not the academic type of person but she loves meeting and interacting with people and has strong communication skills. She had gone for interviews to be an air stewardess twice but didn’t qualify. Since she likes interacting with people, I think a career as a medical assistant would suit her.The daily tasks of a medical assistant depend on their job description / who they work for and the hospital that they work at. Administrative tasks might include filing patient records, arranging for hospital admissions or laboratory services and filling out insurance forms. Clinical duties could include recording vital signs, changing dressings, preparing patients for x-rays, inform patients about treatments, assist patients and physicians with examinations, conduct general laboratory tests, sanitize medical supplies, educate patients about treatments such as medication or eating habits, prepare and give medications and other procedures.If my cousin likes the idea of being a medical assistant, she can get a medical assistant certificate in just 6-8 weeks at her own flexibility by pursuing the program from a medical assistant school online. I have always loved to work in a hospital or clinics. I love to help patients. I've been in and out of the hospital and my doctor's clinic a couple of years back due to my gallstones (which by the way was removed already) I somewhat envy these medical assistants and if I could only be one of them I would definitely love it. But I know that being a medical assistant is not that easy. You have to learn and educate yourself with some administrative and clinical tasks to keep the health practitioners/doctors offices and clinics run smoothly.A medical assistant, as far as I know and learned, updates and file patients’ medical records, fill out insurance forms, and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services. They communicate directly to the patients. In fact I was once a fan of Chicago Hope and I would never miss an episode, where I'd be glued to the TV screen for the next one hour, well, which was supposed to be 45 mins show. :DIt's not because I intended to apply for medical assistant school watching this show, but don't you just think the doctors and nurses are just so good looking and super caring people?!! Well, those were my younger years when they were full of fantasies he he he... ;D

My second cousin Rachel is now enrolled in an online medical assistant school. She used to work in an office, but a friend offered her the chance to work abroad for a much higher compensation than what she is getting now. That is why she took up medical assistant training. She looked for an online school to get her certificate. She told me that online schools are better than traditional schools because she has more flexibility with her schedules.
