Careers for Medical Helathcare

Careers for healthcare professionals
Posted by shutter happy jenn in
Last week, I was in my dad's hometown and I met up with my cousin, who's currently working as a salesperson in a pharmacy. She has a nursing degree, but failed the board exams, so right now, she cannot practice what she was trained to do. She was hoping she could enter a review center to help her prepare for the next board exams, so right now, she was trying to earn enough money to sustain that.If I was her, I would consider being a medical assistant. With her knowledge in the medicine and health care, I am sure she would make a good medical assistant. Over at St. Augustine Educational Services, they offer online study programs, so my cousin would surely work and study at the same time. I checked their medical assistant program details and they have so many programs to choose from. These programs are certainly a big help for people who wanted to become medical assistants - or people who are helping doctors in any given field. Of course, even if you say it's just office work, still, it would be nice if you have some knowledge about the things you're doing. Correct? If I will be able to talk to my cousin, I will tell her about this medical assistant school so she can have many alternatives to her chosen career path. If she's still waiting for the next board exams, then at least she can still make use of her knowledge, as well.

Posts for medical assistants

My Mom Would Be Great For This
Written on 12:35 PM by Nicoyle
My mom is really proud of me to be going back to school and always tell me that she wishes she could do it and she has been thinking about going to college for as long as I can remember. I think that she would be good at trying for classes online and especially in
medical assistant courses. She does something similar at her current job working at a nursing home. This probably would be good since she would be able to be at home and taking her classes when she is able to especially since she works a full time job. She would also be able to get her Medical Assistant Certificate within 6 to 8 weeks. She would learn things such as medical terminology, patient communication, medical billing and insurance claims and other things required for the course. Since she would be doing this online, she could also do her medical clinical labs right from her computer. St. Augustine School of Medical Assistance is the college that would offer this opportunity to her. What I thought was also cool is that she could get a discount on the tuition fee if she knows someone that would like to take online classes as well. It's close to a $200 discount from an already low tuition fee of $645. She also would be able to register online quickly and get started right away on her path to becoming a non traditional student, like me =) But if anyone else is looking to get into this career path then you should have a look at this medical assistant school.

A career in medical Assisting

A Career In Medical Assisting
My cousin is about to sit for her SPM examination. When I met her at a dinner recently, she told me that she has not decided what she wanted to do after her SPM exam. Going to university to further her studies is out of the question for her as she is not prepared to spend the next 3-4 years studying. She’s not the academic type of person but she loves meeting and interacting with people and has strong communication skills. She had gone for interviews to be an air stewardess twice but didn’t qualify. Since she likes interacting with people, I think a career as a
medical assistant would suit her.The daily tasks of a medical assistant depend on their job description / who they work for and the hospital that they work at. Administrative tasks might include filing patient records, arranging for hospital admissions or laboratory services and filling out insurance forms. Clinical duties could include recording vital signs, changing dressings, preparing patients for x-rays, inform patients about treatments, assist patients and physicians with examinations, conduct general laboratory tests, sanitize medical supplies, educate patients about treatments such as medication or eating habits, prepare and give medications and other procedures. If my cousin likes the idea of being a medical assistant, she can get a medical assistant certificate in just 6-8 weeks at her own flexibility by pursuing the program from a medical assistant school online. Being a medical assistant is a rewarding career. I’ve seen how medical assistants work at the hospitals that I normally go to and frankly, I really don’t mind being one myself one day when my kids are all grown up, when I need a job to while away my time. Job opportunities should be excellent, particularly for those with formal medical assistant training. More of this post can be view online at:

What to be a Medical Assistant?

Want to be a Medical Assistant?
by Tricia
I have always loved to work in a hospital or clinics. I love to help patients. I've been in and out of the hospital and my doctor's clinic a couple of years back due to my gallstones (which by the way was removed already) I somewhat envy these
medical assistants and if I could only be one of them I would definitely love it. But I know that being a medical assistant is not that easy. You have to learn and educate yourself with some administrative and clinical tasks to keep the health practitioners/doctors offices and clinics run smoothly.A medical assistant, as far as I know and learned, updates and file patients’ medical records, fill out insurance forms, and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services. They communicate directly to the patients. They also perform tasks less specific to medical settings, such as answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping. They have to be efficient because the offices or clinics depends on them. Medical Assistants is somewhat the secret behind the success of every medical offices. It's a good thing that you can find a medical assistant school online that offers courses more affordable than any other school online. You can finish your course at your own convenient time since they have no deadlines. It is like studying without having pressures. So if you want to be a medical assistant check out St. Augustine School of Medical Assistants now and start making a difference in your career. More and full post available at:

medical assistant program review

Behind great medical offices are excellent medical assistants. You think most successful or well known medical offices are on top only because of their staff, services and facilities? Well think again! We all know how busy, hectic and demanding such offices can be. Sometimes, things can really get ugly and unorganized. That is why there are medical assistants.
Medical assistants are health care workers who do the administrative and clinical tasks that keep the offices of health practitioners running smoothly. While the business responsibilities in the office are the concern of the office management staff, the smooth work flow and operation in the office depends largely on the knowledge and skills of the medical assistant.
What
medical assistants do is that to make sure that day-to-day processes are handled safely and efficiently as new and existing patients come and go the office. They do that while at the same time, doctors, healthcare practitioners and nursing staff deal with the patients' medical issues and health care concerns directly.
There are
medical assistant schools that are affordable. One is St. Augustine School of Medical Assistants. They offer their services online with their nationally accredited and certified Medical Assistant program. So if you know someone who is interested in becoming a medical assistant, let him/her try out this school. They claim to be more affordable than any other medical assistant schools so it should all be worth it.

medical assistant student blogs

I was watching the first few episodes of Grey's Anatomy Season 5 recently and it just reminded me of how much I thought I had my dreams on being a medical surgeon all set.Yup.. once upon a time, that was what I thought. But I did remember way back when I was doing my A-levels, my lecturer did suggest I check into other careers. Not that she was being discouraging or whatever. Even I myself knew this.. My hands were too shaky. I don't have the steady and gentle hands to be a surgeon. It'd be like asking Edward Scissorhands to perform surgery. Seriously. But I don't know, maybe being a medical assistant wouldn't be that bad, eh? Apparently, there's a surge of growing job opportunities in this line. I recently did stumble upon this medical assistant school that provides online classes for those aspiring to be a medical assistant. Sure, it may not be as glamorous as having the title of medical surgeon. Still, where would they be if it weren't for medical assistants, right?Anyways, MedAssistant.org is a medical assistant school that provides online classes for programs such as Pharmacy Technician Program, Dental Assistant Program, Nursing Assistant Program and Medical Assistant Program. Just for your info, the programs are accredited and certified, affordable and convenient for those interested in an online distance education of such programs. However, personally, with my two kids still so young, I don't think I'll be doing any studying anytime soon. I would love to, definitely. Just not now... Great things come to those who wait. Right? Complete medical assitant blog at: http://nazshemah.blogspot.com/2008/10/shemah-shakyhands.html. I recommend St. Augsutine School of Medical Assistant online distance education program for medical assistants.

med show

Med Show
How many TV shows do you watch per day? Apart from reality shows, most of the medical related TV series are definitely in my list. In fact I was once a fan of Chicago Hope and I would never miss an episode, where I'd be glued to the TV screen for the next one hour, well, which was supposed to be 45 mins show. :DIt's not because I intended to apply for
medical assistant school watching this show, but don't you just think the doctors and nurses are just so good looking and super caring people?!! Then, along came ER, which was a hit, Grey's Anatomy and other series. This time not only the doctors and medical assistant was a bunch of gorgeous actors, but also the patients! Ha ha ha... Well, those were my younger years when they were full of fantasies he he he... ;D

Anyway, on a serious note, these kinds of stories are in reality full of lessons to learn in life especially the different approaches of another human being treat and try to save other human being's life spice up with deep emotions and the everyday life they gone through. It's an eye opener for people who are seriously thinking of being a doctor, medical assistant or work their hours in the emergency room and hospital.

Leaving to become a medical assistantlae

Leaving to Become a Medical Assistant
My second cousin Rachel is now enrolled in an online
medical assistant school. She used to work in an office, but a friend offered her the chance to work abroad for a much higher compensation than what she is getting now. That is why she took up medical assistant training. She looked for an online school to get her certificate. She told me that online schools are better than traditional schools because she has more flexibility with her schedules. She still has time to look after her three kids and her husband. It's a good thing they live with her parents. Her dad, being retired now, helps in looking after the little ones while the adults are at work, or in her case, studying online.Rachel told me that her friend was working as a medical assistant in a Middle Eastern country. She said that her friend was offering her a position there. I told her not to hesitate and just grab the opportunity with both hands. It's not often that the chance to work abroad comes without having to pay a mini-fortune to a recruitment agency. Her choice to be a medical assistant puzzled me at first. Most people here are studying to be nurses, it is the popular choice. But being a medical assistant, as I read online, is a good option for her. Medical assistants are also healthcare professionals who perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of other health practitioners running smoothly. The demand for them is on the rise too. And the best thing about her online medical assistant school is that she will earn her certificate in 6 or 8 weeks! That's a very short period of time to wait. Nursing schools usually take at least 2 years to finish.I wished my cousin well in her new job, and promised that I will drop in from time to time on her kids and parents to see how they are doing. Be a Medical Assistant

The health care industry is fast growing. Have you noticed, especially here in the Philippines, most high school students want to take up nursing in college? Right now, I could come up with five people I know taking up this course. Also, many are leaving their jobs to become Caregivers because it seems more profitable. They complete a vocational course hoping to get employed in another country and get better income. Medical Transcription is also thriving. Schools offering this course are mushrooming everywhere.
Being a
medical assistant is another career that could pay well. If you have not heard of this before, medical assistants help doctors accommodate patients in their offices during consultations. They update the patient’s records and interview them prior to seeing the doctor. They also check vitals, give injections, draw blood, assist in minor surgeries, call patients on behalf of the doctor, etc. I remember my doctor’s medical assistant.
Medassistant.org is an on-line medical assistant school offering a nationally (United States) accredited & certified Medical Assistant program. Convenient and flexible, you can apply on-line anytime and study at your own pace. The comprehensive curriculum will surely make you competent in the field. They have a team of educators, doctors, nurses and other health care providers always available to help you in your studies. medical assistant employment

Medical assistants held about 417,000 jobs in 2006. About 62 percent worked in offices of physicians; 12 percent worked in public and private hospitals, including inpatient and outpatient facilities; and 11 percent worked in offices of other health practitioners, such as chiropractors, optometrists, and podiatrists. Most of the remainder worked in other health care industries such as outpatient care centers and nursing and residential care facilities. Medical assistants may advance to other occupations through experience or additional training. For example, some may go on to teach medical assisting, and others pursue additional education to become nurses or other health care workers. Administrative medical assistants may advance to office manager, or qualify for a variety of administrative support occupations.

They should not be confused with Physician assistants, who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician. (Physician assistants are discussed elsewhere in the Handbook.)
The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. In small practices, medical assistants usually do many different kinds of tasks, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators.
Medical assistants who perform administrative tasks have many duties. They update and file patients’ medical records, fill out insurance forms, and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services. They also perform tasks less specific to medical settings, such as answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping.
For clinical medical assistants, duties vary according to what is allowed by State law. Some common tasks include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting physicians during examinations. Medical assistants collect and prepare laboratory specimens and sometimes perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments. They might instruct patients about medications and special diets, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills as directed, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures, and change dressings.
Medical assistants also may arrange examining room instruments and equipment, purchase and maintain supplies and equipment, and keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean.
Ophthalmic medical assistants, optometric assistants, and podiatric medical assistants are examples of specialized assistants who have additional duties. Ophthalmic medical assistants help ophthalmologists provide eye care. They conduct diagnostic tests, measure and record vision, and test eye muscle function. They also show patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses, and they apply eye dressings. Under the direction of the physician, ophthalmic medical assistants may administer eye medications. They also maintain optical and surgical instruments and may assist the ophthalmologist in surgery. Optometric assistants also help provide eye care, working with optometrists. They provide chair-side assistance, instruct patients about contact lens use and care, conduct preliminary tests on patients, and otherwise provide assistance while working directly with an optometrist. Podiatric medical assistants make castings of feet, expose and develop x rays, and assist podiatrists in surgery.
Work environment. Medical assistants work in well-lighted, clean environments. They constantly interact with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. Most full-time medical assistants work a regular 40-hour week. However, many medical assistants work part time, evenings, or weekends. Education and training. Postsecondary medical assisting programs are offered in vocational-technical high schools, postsecondary vocational schools, and community and junior colleges. Programs usually last either 1 year and result in a certificate or diploma, or 2 years and result in an associate degree. Courses cover anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, as well as typing, transcription, recordkeeping, accounting, and insurance processing. Students learn laboratory techniques, clinical and diagnostic procedures, pharmaceutical principles, the administration of medications, and first aid. They study office practices, patient relations, medical law, and ethics. There are various organizations that accredit medical assisting programs. Accredited programs often include an internship that provides practical experience in physicians’ offices, hospitals, or other health care facilities.
Formal training in medical assisting, while generally preferred, is not always required. Some medical assistants are trained on the job, although this practice is less common than in the past. Applicants usually need a high school diploma or the equivalent. Recommended high school courses include mathematics, health, biology, typing, bookkeeping, computers, and office skills. Volunteer experience in the health care field also is helpful. Medical assistants who are trained on the job usually spend their first few months attending training sessions and working closely with more experienced workers.
Some States allow medical assistants to perform more advanced procedures, such as giving injections, after passing a test or taking a course.
medical assistant pay is the earnings of medical assistants vary, depending on their experience, skill level, and location. Median annual earnings of wage-and-salary medical assistants were $26,290 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $21,970 and $31,210. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $18,860, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $36,840.
